I think that sending children to boys or girls only schools inhibits
them from forming important social ties and having real-life
experiences that would be beneficial to the children's development. I
can see how having a boys only or girls only school would limit the
issue of distraction during the school day, but I think that
developing social skills is a very important part of schooling. In my
opinion, the social relationships that are formed by being in school
with both sexes is a part of life that is healthy and should be
encouraged, since when the children get older, they will inevitably
encounter members of the opposite sex. Therefore, I do not see a
reason for separation in most cases.

I am a future educator, and I feel a seperation of boys and girls in
schools would bring about a jaded perpective. It's important
expecially at an early age to have both sexes interacting in schools
to gain knowledge of different ideas and thoughts.

Nichole,
I am also a future educator, and I agree with your thoughts about
separation of boys and girls in school. Thank you for sharing your
feelings, I appreciate it. I think that a lot of times parents do not
see the benefits of having boys and girls together, and they do not
remember how important it was for them at that age to interact with
both sexes. I think it is important for parents and school
administrators to keep in mind the importance of interaction in
healthy social development for kids at that age. Again, thanks for
your comments.
