Ever since Clinton's goals 2000, high-stakes assessment has become an
extremely controversial issue. Many see testing as a good thing
because we can gauge where students are at and help them better achieve
academically. On the other hand, some individuals feel that
high-stakes assessment is detrimental to learning because it forces
teachers to teach to the test and therefore doesn't leave enough time
to teach students what they really need to learn. As a future teacher,
I am wondering if you have any advice as to how I can deal with
preparing my students for the tests, yet still ensure that they are
getting the education they need?
